About this course
The course combines rehearsals in small instrumental groups with work in a larger ensemble. Sessions explore baroque repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries, including different composers, styles and approaches to performing with period instruments. Teaching also covers ensemble and stylistic questions, interpretation, rehearsal methods and historical context. Learners may use recordings, online video, mobile applications and Microsoft Teams as part of music study inside and outside the classroom.

Listed at Intermediate level, the course is intended for instrumentalists developing beyond fundamental ensemble skills. Entry requirements include an instrument that plays at A=415, good sight reading and some chamber music experience. Learners need to contribute to discussions in English, complete activities outside class and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
