About this course

Participants play consort repertoire selected by the group with guidance from the tutor. Coaching may cover rhythm, dynamics, bowing, fingering and performance practice, with discussion in English forming part of the class. The music studied can include different types of consort repertoire and playing techniques. Digital resources, including recordings, online video, mobile applications and Microsoft Teams, may also be used to support study inside and outside the classroom.

What you'll learn

  • Apply techniques suited to different types of consort music
  • Develop ensemble playing in a consort
  • Recognise a wider range of consort repertoire
  • Transfer consort-playing experience to ensembles outside Morley

  • Requires one-per-part sight-reading ability
  • Designed for group playing in a mixed-ability ensemble
  • Includes activities to complete outside class

Before you go

  • Participants need to bring their own viol and bow.
  • Viols and other instruments should be at A=415, subject to availability and tutor approval.
  • The tutor may occasionally ask participants to bring music, with advance notice.
