About this course

Participants prepare and perform opera scenes in Italian, German, French and English, taking on at least two roles selected for their voice type and development. Training combines individual and group music sessions, language coaching, vocal coaching and staged rehearsals with a director. The programme also covers movement, characterisation, pronunciation and following a conductor, with possible masterclasses and optional stagecraft activities. Rehearsals build towards run-throughs, dress rehearsals and public performances each term.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for experienced singers with a well-developed classical vocal technique who are working towards professional-standard opera performance. It involves auditions, regular individual singing tuition, independent preparation and collaborative rehearsal, as well as compulsory public performances.

• Entry is by audition, requiring two prepared arias
• Some previous stage experience and knowledge of Italian, German and French pronunciation are desirable
• Participants must maintain regular singing tuition and practise assigned music, translations and background research
• Attendance at rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances is an essential commitment

• Music scores are provided by the college.
• Bring equipment for taking notes.
• Comfortable clothing is requested for movement sessions.
