Morley String Ensemble

About this course

Participants rehearse and perform a varied selection of music arranged to suit the standards represented in the ensemble. The sessions develop ensemble awareness through following a conductor, responding to other sections and playing across different keys, time signatures, dynamics and bowing patterns. The course combines practical string orchestra playing with discussion in English. Digital resources, including recordings, online video and relevant mobile applications, may be used to support music study inside and outside class.

Is this course right for you?

The ensemble is non-auditioned and welcomes players at different standards. It is intended for musicians with a basic ability to read and play notes in first position, while more advanced players are also welcomed. Participation includes playing as part of a group and contributing to discussions in English.

• Suitable for players from first-position level to approximately Grade 5
• More advanced players are welcomed because parts are set at different levels
• No audition is required

• Participants need to bring their instrument and bow.
• Music is provided by the tutor.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality are required.
