About this course
The ensemble explores wind repertoire in different musical styles through full-group playing and work within individual sections. Sessions include listening to the tutor, making notes and discussing the music in English, with digital resources such as recordings, videos and relevant apps supporting study inside and outside class. Players prepare between sessions and may take part in an end-of-term in-class performance, with external opportunities where possible. Repertoire includes moderately challenging rhythms and requires attention to balance, blend, intonation, articulation, tone, dynamics and phrasing.
What you'll learn
- Maintain an independent part and steady pulse in ensemble repertoire with moderately challenging rhythms
- Assess balance, blend and intonation by listening across the ensemble
- Match the sound of other players within a section
- Distinguish melody from accompaniment and adapt playing accordingly
- Apply articulation, tone, dynamics and phrasing to suit different works and musical styles
