Mosaic & Glass Fusing for Beginners

About this course

The course introduces mosaic and glass-fusing techniques through demonstrations, lectures, practical exercises, group discussion and one-to-one tuition. Participants make samples, experiment with materials and then apply their skills to mosaic panels incorporating self-made fused glass. Topics include designing, cutting mosaic and fusing materials, laying opus vermiculatum and opus sectile, using glass frits and stringers, understanding fusing compatibility, and completing work through grouting and finishing. Health and safety are addressed throughout, with verbal feedback and progress discussions during the project.

The course is primarily intended for complete beginners, while also accommodating learners with some existing experience. Participation combines individual practical work with group discussion, demonstrations and one-to-one tuition. Learners are expected to follow verbal instructions and use tools and materials safely.

• Includes practical workshop activity using tools and materials.

Before you go

• Wear workshop clothes or an apron; open shoes should not be worn.
• Bring a sketchbook, pencils and a small paintbrush for glue.
