About this course
The course introduces mosaic design and construction alongside the creation of small fused-glass elements. Learners make samples, experiment with materials and techniques, then apply their work to mosaic panels. Topics include cutting mosaic and fusing materials, laying opus techniques such as opus vermiculatum and opus sectile, using glass frits and stringers, glass compatibility, grouting and finishing.

Is this course right for you?
The course is primarily intended for complete beginners, while also accommodating learners with some experience who want to develop their techniques. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical individual work, group discussion and one-to-one tuition. Learners need good hand strength, dexterity, eyesight and concentration, and must be able to understand verbal instructions and use tools safely.

Before you go
- Wear workshop clothes or an apron; open shoes are not permitted.
- Bring a sketchbook, pencils and a small paintbrush for glue.
- The materials provision includes a starter pack of fusing materials and a basic range of mosaic materials for a first small panel.
- A limited range of additional materials may be available for purchase, with guidance provided on sourcing further supplies.
