Mosaic – Improvers

About this course

Participants develop a mosaic panel using the indirect method, working face-down to improve control and precision. The course covers design planning, andamento, colour selection, accurate cutting, section assembly, transfer techniques and grouting, with attention to achieving a refined finish. Teaching combines demonstrations, questions and answers, individual guidance and a Personal Learning Plan. Learners receive feedback while progressing through the stages of planning and making their panel.

Is this course right for you?

The course is primarily intended for learners who have completed a beginner’s mosaic course and are ready to develop their technical skills. Intermediate learners are also welcome. Design support and templates are available, and drawing skills are not required.

• Previous beginner-level mosaic study is expected
• Learners should arrive with a simple, achievable design idea
• The course involves detailed, carefully paced practical work

Before you go

• Bring a simple mosaic design idea to the first session; templates and inspiration will also be available.
• Bring a secure container or flat box to transport the finished mosaic, which may still be fragile.
• Allow 15 minutes at the end of each class to tidy the workspace.
• Food and drink are not permitted in the studio.
