Mosaic intensive workshop: from concept to creation

An advanced mosaic workshop for developing techniques and completing an individual project through demonstrations and tailored one-to-one guidance.
About this course
Learners develop an individual mosaic project, choosing between direct, indirect or direct-into-tile-adhesive methods with guidance on the most suitable approach. The course can accommodate unfinished indirect-method pieces and explores materials including ceramic, vitreous glass, smalti, natural stone and broken china. Teaching combines whole-class demonstrations with individual guidance, examples, samples, handouts and technical resources. Depending on experience, learners may work on precise cutting, complex curves, gradients, colour theory, grout effects, andamento, traditional motifs or combinations of materials and textures.
What you'll learn
- Apply direct, indirect or direct-into-tile-adhesive mosaic techniques to an individual project
- Develop precise cutting and shaping skills, including the formation of curves
- Use andamento to organise the directional flow of tesserae
- Experiment with gradients, colour transitions and grout colours
- Combine mosaic materials and textures to create depth and realism
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for learners with previous mosaic experience, including those who have completed a related short course or have an ongoing project to finish. Its advanced level indicates that the course is designed for learners developing beyond fundamental techniques, with work tailored to individual experience.
- Suitable for learners bringing an unfinished indirect-method piece
- Learners work on an individual project rather than following a single fixed project
- Teaching includes both whole-class demonstrations and individual guidance
Before you go
- Closed-toe shoes must be worn in the workshop; open-toe footwear is not permitted.
- Basic materials are provided. The available selection may be curated for each group and can include ceramic, vitreous glass, smalti, natural stone and broken china.
