About this course
This beginner course introduces electronic music production through Ableton Live. Teaching combines workshops, practical tasks, in-class discussion and tutor examples. Topics include software fundamentals, audio editing, DAW session management, MIDI creation and manipulation, synthesis, chords, melody, Ableton instruments and effects. The course also covers arrangement for electronic music, automation and mixing. Learners work towards producing a piece of electronic music using Ableton, with additional practice expected outside class.
What you'll learn
- Navigate the basic functions of Ableton Live and manage DAW sessions.
- Edit audio and create and manipulate MIDI.
- Apply basic synthesis, chords and melody using Ableton instruments and effects.
- Arrange electronic music using automation.
- Use basic mixing techniques in an electronic music project.
- Produce a piece of electronic music using Ableton.
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners with little to no experience of Ableton who want to start producing electronic music. It may also suit DJs beginning to make their own productions and people interested in computer-based music-making. Participation includes practical work during sessions and additional work outside class.
- Designed for learners starting with Ableton and electronic music production.
- Requires regular work with Ableton outside class.
Before you go
- Learners need their own copy of Ableton Live software; Ableton Suite is recommended.
- Learners are expected to work with Ableton for at least one hour per day outside class.
