About this course

The course follows the main stages of narrative filmmaking, from developing and storyboarding a sequence through scheduling, shooting and post-production. Participants examine how shot types, camera angles and movement contribute to meaning, then record video and sound using digital equipment. Teaching combines lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises and film-based discussions. Participants work on Apple Mac computers to capture footage, edit sequences in DaVinci Resolve and render their completed movies.

This Beginner course is open to all and is structured for learners developing foundational filmmaking skills. Participants should be comfortable with basic computer use, following written and verbal instructions, taking part in group discussion, and using simple measurements and calculations.

Before you go

  • Apple Mac computers and filmmaking and editing equipment are provided.
  • Participants need to provide any props they choose to use in their production.
  • A portable hard drive may be useful for storing work.
