Narrative filmmaking intensive

About this course

Participants develop an idea into a short narrative film, working through preparation, storyboarding, shot composition, camera movement and recording. The course combines demonstrations, short lectures, workshops, discussions, practical exercises and individual tutorials. Learners shoot video and sound, review footage, and edit a sequence in Premiere Pro before exporting the finished movie. Group forums provide opportunities to examine work and discuss editing and post-production choices.

Is this course right for you?

This is a beginner-level course for learners developing foundational filmmaking skills. Basic computer knowledge is expected, including opening applications, navigating, and opening and saving files. Teaching includes group and individual exercises, discussions, and opportunities to review work with others.

Before you go

• Teaching uses Apple Mac computers.
• A removable storage device suitable for video editing, with at least 500GB capacity, is recommended for keeping course work.
• A PC-formatted portable hard drive or USB stick can be read by Apple Mac computers but cannot be written to.
• Handouts, manuals and worksheets are provided.
