Natural Dye and Sustainable Print Summer

About this course

Participants investigate seasonal natural dye sources, including plants from the college dye garden, while considering responsible foraging, mordants and fabric preparation. The course covers screen printing, eco printing, solar dyeing and contact printing on sustainable fabrics and a range of fibres. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, group learning, individual guidance, examples, books, handouts and discussion. Participants make dye baths and printing inks from seasonal plants and food waste, producing a collection of dyed and printed samples with accompanying recipes and methods. Individual projects can also be developed with tutor support.

Before you go

• Learners should bring a sketchbook, pen, rubber gloves and an apron.
• The studio is on the second floor, with access via a lift to the first floor and a stair lift to the second; learners with mobility support needs should contact the college before enrolling.
