About this course

Participants explore the heritage and science of indigo dyeing through demonstrations, group discussion and individual experiments with fabric and pattern-making. The course covers creating and maintaining a fructose-based indigo vat, applying shibori resist and tie-dye techniques, and using plant-based fixatives and mordants to set colour. Basic pH principles are introduced to explain their role in dyeing, alongside experiments with upcycled fabrics and sustainable textile practices.
