About this course

Participants examine how lighting shapes nude art photography, including hard, soft, low-key and high-key approaches, and work with studio lighting equipment. The course also covers camera settings, light meters, metering modes, focal length and lens classification. Teaching takes place in a small group, with practical work on set alongside a professional model. Participants develop approaches to composition, posing and directing, and practise setting up backdrops, props and lighting to achieve a chosen mood or style.

What you'll learn

  • Distinguish between hard, soft, low-key and high-key lighting styles
  • Use studio lighting equipment and arrange lighting for a chosen mood
  • Apply manual camera settings, light-meter readings and metering modes
  • Assess focal length and lens types for nude photography
  • Compose images and direct posing when working with a model
  • Set up a studio using backdrops, props and lighting

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level photographers with a good understanding of basic exposure and manual camera settings. Participation involves practical studio work in a small group, including working with a professional model and receiving individual feedback.

  • Confidence using a camera’s manual settings is strongly advised

Before you go

  • A mirrorless, DSLR or compact camera with full manual controls is required, although the provider can provide a camera if needed.
  • The provider supplies the necessary props and accessories.

  • Comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • An external flash may be brought if owned.
