Oil Painting Level 1 Short Course
A face-to-face beginner oil painting course covering still-life painting, colour, surfaces, glazing and paint application techniques.
About this course
The course introduces oil painting through still-life exercises, including approaches that begin directly with paint rather than preparatory drawing. Participants explore colour mixing, colour harmonies, different painting surfaces, glazing and varied methods of applying paint. Later work becomes more self-directed, with guidance on developing initial sketches and ideas into a structured painting plan. The course combines demonstrations and practical exercises with supported individual project development.
What you'll learn
- Paint from still life without relying on preparatory line or drawing
- Mix colours and work with colour harmonies
- Apply oil paint using varied techniques
- Use glazing as part of an oil painting process
- Develop an initial concept into a planned self-directed project
Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for beginners as well as learners with some previous oil painting experience. Its beginner level suggests an introduction to fundamental processes, while the later self-directed projects allow participants to work with guidance on their own ideas.
