About this course

Participants explore Omani cooking through a family-style class in which the group prepares several dishes together. Each person chooses one dish to focus on, while also moving around the kitchen to assist with other recipes and learn from the wider menu. The dishes may include shorba, Omani samosa, vegetable saloona, makbous, tuna salad and khabeesa, covering soups, savoury pastries, stews, rice, salad and dessert. The session concludes with the group sharing the food prepared during the class.

What you'll learn

  • Prepare a selected Omani dish as part of a shared cooking session.
  • Contribute to the preparation of additional recipes from the Omani menu.
  • Identify and work with ingredients used in the listed Omani dishes, including aromatic spices, herbs and dried lime.

Is this course right for you?

Listed as suitable for all levels, the class is structured around shared preparation rather than entirely individual work. Participants focus on one dish while contributing to a wider group meal and learning from the other recipes being prepared.

  • The format involves working collaboratively with the rest of the group.
  • Each participant is asked to focus on one dish while helping with others.

Before you go

  • The listed menu contains chicken, beef and tuna, with vegetarian dishes also included.
  • Listed allergens are celery, fish, gluten (wheat), milk, sulphites and tree nuts (almonds).
  • Dietary requirements should be communicated in advance, but ingredients will not be substituted, so the menu must suit individual dietary needs.
  • The menu is subject to change.
