About this course

The course explores zero-waste pattern making, with participants developing a draft for a simple garment suited to their sewing ability. Teaching combines practical sessions, question-and-answer activities, observations and PLPs, using specialist fashion and textile classroom facilities. Participants examine sustainable fashion, sustainable fabrics and clothing upcycling while applying pattern-making and sewing processes to their own garment outcome. The course includes work with both sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improver-level learners developing beyond fundamental sewing skills. Basic sewing machine skills are expected, while previous experience in dressmaking or pattern cutting would be beneficial. Participants work through practical activities and develop an individual garment outcome.

Before you go

• Participants are expected to provide their own fabrics and materials.
• Professional sewing equipment, including Bernina sewing machines, is available for use in class.
• Participants may bring their own sewing machine, but it must be PAT tested by a member of RHACC staff before use.
