Papermaking Summer Saturdays

About this course

Participants prepare fibres and use professional papermaking equipment to produce handmade sheets with embossed, laminated, decorative and textured surfaces. The course also introduces customised moulds and creative ways to experiment with pulp. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical work, technical handouts, tutor feedback and discussion. Learners share samples and ideas through show-and-tell and group critique, with guidance provided both individually and in groups.

• Experiment with pulp and customised moulds

Is this course right for you?

The course is suitable for beginners as well as learners extending their papermaking skills. Complete beginners are encouraged to create reference samples, while returning students may receive additional exercises alongside the set work. Participation includes discussion, show-and-tell, group critique and practical work with tutor guidance.

Before you go

• Bring an apron, a pack of J cloths or similar, jam jars, a plastic box or strong plastic bag for damp paper, newspapers, and a notebook and pen.
• The studio is on the second floor and has lift access. Learners with mobility support needs should contact Additional Learning Support before enrolling.
