Papermaking Summer Saturdays

About this course

Participants will prepare fibres and pulp, then use professional papermaking equipment, including a mould and deckle, to create embossed, laminated, decorative and textured papers. The course also introduces experimentation with customised moulds. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations, practical exercises and technical handouts. Learning is supported through discussion, show and tell, group critique, and feedback provided individually and in groups.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners at all levels, including complete beginners and returning students. Participants will work individually while also taking part in discussions, show and tell, and group critique, with tutor guidance offered both one-to-one and in groups.

• Complete beginners are encouraged to create reference samples
• Returning students may be given additional exercises alongside set work
• The course includes shared discussion, show and tell, and group critique

Before you go

• Bring an apron, a pack of J cloths or similar, jam jars, a plastic box or strong plastic bag for damp paper sheets, newspapers, and a notebook and pen.
• The studio is on the second floor and has a lift.
