About this course
The course introduces traditional and contemporary patchwork and quilting through small samples and projects, including simple block quilt designs, hand and machine stitching, backing fabrics, wadding and stitch. After developing core techniques, learners can pursue a personal project such as a wall piece, quilt, purse, bag or cushion. Teaching combines visual demonstrations, verbal explanations, illustrated handouts, one-to-one guidance and group discussion. Learners also examine work by quilt designers and makers, consider research, colour and pattern, and may visit a relevant textile exhibition or collection as a group.
