About this course
The course explores how traditional corsets differ from modern and fashion bodices, including the components required for a functional design. Learners apply several pattern-drafting techniques to develop an individually styled corset or bodice pattern, focusing on shaping and design details. Practical sessions combine pattern cutting with sewing-machine work to produce and assess a toile. The course also includes an opportunity to examine historical corsets.

This improver-level course is intended for learners developing beyond fundamental pattern-cutting techniques rather than those starting from scratch. Basic maths, introductory pattern-cutting skills and dress-sewing skills are stated minimum requirements. Participants work on an individual design and use sewing machines to make a toile.

- Buy calico for toiling, a tracing wheel, a drill holer, and either a pattern master or set square.
