Performance poetry workshop

About this course

Participants develop poetry intended for live performance, considering spoken-word conventions, delivery and individual style. The workshop combines writing tasks with discussion, listening and viewing activities, and group work on material in progress. Learners examine established poets’ work and share their own writing for peer and tutor critique. The course also considers how voice and physical presence contribute to spoken-word poetry, including preparation for performing pieces to an audience.

The course is intended for writers who have already begun exploring poetry or performance and are developing beyond fundamental experience. Participation involves writing, sharing work in progress, listening to others and responding to group critique, with performance to an audience forming part of the course.
