About this course

The course introduces major ideas, thinkers and debates in Western philosophy through questions about knowledge, reality, morality, freedom and political authority. Participants consider whether certainty is possible, how moral standards are formed, and when governments have legitimate power. Learning is developed through class participation, critical consideration of philosophical problems and opportunities for self-assessment. The course also encourages participants to articulate their own philosophical viewpoints.
