About this course

The workshop develops non-destructive retouching techniques for beauty, fashion and editorial images. Participants work on skin and facial detail, makeup, hair and clothing colour, and adjustments to texture, tone, contrast and colour. Teaching combines tutor demonstrations with time to practise in Photoshop and Lightroom. The course covers Raw-file processing, selection masks, frequency separation, textures, gradients and colour grading, with opportunities to review images through individual and group support.

What you'll learn

  • Retouch skin and other image elements at the Raw-file stage
  • Create selection masks for Raw and JPEG images
  • Adjust colour, texture, tone and contrast
  • Apply frequency separation, textures, gradients and colour grading
  • Use a non-destructive workflow between Lightroom and Photoshop

Is this course right for you?

It is not a beginner course in Photoshop or Lightroom, and learners are likely to benefit most from reasonable experience with one or both applications. Participation includes demonstrations, individual practice and group support.

  • The course focuses specifically on beauty, fashion and editorial retouching
  • Images may be discussed through individual and group feedback

Before you go

  • Apple Mac computers are used in the photography studio.
  • A memory stick or portable hard drive would be useful for working with files.
  • Learners may use their own computer if it has the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom installed, or use their Adobe account details on the studio computers.
  • Google Classroom is used to share comments, download course material and upload images for group critiques where appropriate.
