About this course

This course develops foundational piano playing through simple scales, chords and pieces studied at around Grade 1 ABRSM standard. Learners work on posture, hand position, moving between phrases, and coordinating melodies with accompaniments. The class uses digital pianos and headphones, allowing each learner to practise privately while the tutor listens in. Sessions also introduce music notation and basic theory, including pitch, rhythm and time signatures.

What you'll learn

  • Maintain appropriate posture and hand position at the piano
  • Shift hand position between and within musical phrases
  • Play simple melodies and accompaniments with increasing hand coordination
  • Read and write simple pitches, rhythms and time signatures
  • Perform simple piano material in front of other people
