Piano and keyboard: mixed level repertoire part 2

About this course

Participants work on chosen music and songs while extending their repertoire to include more challenging pieces in varied styles. The course also covers scales, warm-up and practice methods, legato and staccato, hand and finger independence, dynamics, articulation and expression markings. Teaching combines demonstrations, discussion, listening and analysis, practical exercises, individual and group work, peer assessment and continuous feedback. Learners use their developing music-reading, aural and ensemble skills through individual practice and supported online learning activities.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for pianists and keyboard players with more than a year of playing experience, including people returning to the instrument who retain some music-reading ability. It involves individual practice alongside group activities, peer assessment and playing for others.

• Designed as a progression route for those who have taken related piano and keyboard courses

• Learners need access to an acoustic or digital piano or keyboard for practice outside class.
• An Individual Learning Plan is part of the course.
