Piano Duos and Duets

About this course

This masterclass series explores major works for piano duos and duets through performance, tuition, listening and group discussion. Each week, several duos perform and receive feedback on the term’s chosen project, with participants learning both as performers and listeners. The course addresses ensemble coordination, balance between parts, pedalling and effective rehearsal methods. It also provides opportunities for public performance and requires players to contribute to discussions in English.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for pianists at Grade 8 standard or above, corresponding to an advanced level. Participants perform in duos, learn through masterclass observation and discussion, and are expected to prepare their parts independently before rehearsing with partners.

• Entry is subject to audition
• Requires regular preparation outside class
• Participants need to follow and contribute to discussions in English
• Excellent attendance and punctuality are required

Before you go

• Bring the scores arranged for each lesson, a notebook and a pencil.
• Participants can use a practice room for one hour before class to rehearse with their partner or partners.
