About this course

The workshop develops piano technique through repertoire and studies at approximately grade 5-6 standard. Participants work on legato playing, tone quality, tonal balance, articulation, pedalling, ornaments, chord voicing and musical texture, alongside scales and arpeggios. Technical issues, style and performance skills are considered in relation to the music being studied, with the option to propose a piece by agreement with the tutor. Teaching combines explanation, demonstration and a playing-listening workshop format. Depending on the needs of the group, sessions may also include aural skills, musicianship and theory. Materials and homework tasks are shared through Google Classroom.

  • Make informed decisions about pedalling.
