About this course
The course develops keyboard coordination through hands-together playing, musical patterns, scales, arpeggio shapes and primary chords. Learners work with major and minor keys, key signatures, sight-reading, rhythmic patterns and simple compound time signatures, while applying legato, staccato, dynamics and articulation.
What you'll learn
- Play Grade 2 pieces with both hands and greater fluency.
- Perform the specified major and minor scales and arpeggios.
- Read key signatures of up to three flats or three sharps.
- Identify and play major and minor chords and melodies.
- Apply basic legato and staccato articulation with varied dynamics.
- Recognise and correct mistakes in personal and other players’ performances.
Is this course right for you?
This improver-level course is intended for pianists who have either been playing for around two years or completed Piano/keyboards 2B. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing, individual tasks and class discussion. Regular practice between lessons is considered essential.
- Learners need to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- The course includes both group playing and individual demonstration tasks.
- A regular practice routine of around 30 minutes, four to five times a week, is recommended.
Before you go
- Learners need access to a full-sized acoustic or digital piano for lessons and practice.
- One or two printed course books are usually needed.
- A notebook and pencil are useful.
- Google Classroom is used to share materials, messages and homework tasks.
