About this course

The course develops piano and keyboard technique through scales, arpeggios, varied articulations, tonal control and dynamic range. Learners work on repertoire around Grade 4 standard, with attention to style, performance, keyboard harmony, aural awareness and related theory. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with group playing and individual demonstration tasks. The course also addresses how to establish a regular practice routine and use effective practice strategies. Participants gain experience of performing pieces from the class repertoire in front of others.

What you'll learn

  • Perform at least three pieces from the class repertoire
  • Produce a controlled tone with a convincing dynamic range
  • Play a variety of scales and arpeggios fluently
  • Use different articulations and touches in performance
  • Apply practice routines and strategies to piano study
