About this course
Participants study repertoire selected by the tutor, or bring alternative pieces such as music being prepared for a graded examination. Alongside repertoire work, sessions address sight-reading, scales, aural skills, theory and general piano technique, including pedal use and musical phrasing. Teaching includes discussion of learners’ performances and may use recordings, online video, mobile applications and Microsoft Teams to support music study inside and outside class. Learners also set personal targets and review their progress against the course outcomes.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for players with at least three years’ experience who are working at around Grade 4 standard. It involves regular individual practice between classes, participation in discussions about performances and following discussions in English.

Before you go
- Learners need access to an acoustic or digital piano outside class.
- Bring relevant music scores, a notebook and a pencil.
- Keep a journal for tutor feedback and reflections on classwork and personal practice.
- Other course materials are supplied by the tutor.
- Pianists are advised to maintain good posture and take regular breaks to stretch and relax.
