About this course
The course develops piano technique through work on posture, hand position, warm-ups, practice habits, touch, hand independence and expressive playing. Learners study new and familiar repertoire across different styles, with attention to dynamics, articulation and other notation. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with individual playing to the tutor, playing alongside other learners, listening, discussion, and aural and theory exercises. Digital resources may also be used to support music study inside and outside the classroom.

Is this course right for you?
This mixed-level course is intended for learners with at least one year of piano-playing experience, including those returning after time away from the instrument. Participants are expected to play individually to the tutor, play with and listen to others, contribute to group discussions in English, and practise regularly between classes.

Before you go
- Learners need access to an acoustic or digital piano outside class.
- Short practice sessions of 20 to 30 minutes, at least four to five times a week, are expected.
- Bring a notebook, pencil, eraser, manuscript paper and any piano repertoire to work on.
- Headphones are provided, although learners are encouraged to bring their own.
- When playing, maintain good posture and take regular breaks to stretch and relax.
