About this course

The class supports pianists returning after a break or developing beyond initial study. Each learner works at an individual digital keyboard while listening to explanations and demonstrations, playing to the tutor and alongside other participants, and discussing music as a group. Study includes aural and theory exercises, music reading, practice approaches and repertoire in different styles. Learners may also use recordings, online video, mobile applications and the college’s virtual learning environment as part of their music study.

What you'll learn

  • Improve posture and hand position when playing
  • Apply effective warm-up and practice techniques
  • Control touch through contrasts such as legato and staccato
  • Develop greater independence between the hands and fingers
  • Read and write musical information including dynamics, articulation and expression markings
  • Play new and familiar repertoire in a range of styles
