About this course

This advanced workshop examines stylistic approaches across varied piano repertoire, typically drawing on two or three composers. Participants work on technical and musical detail, including tone production, pedalling, rhythm and pulse coordination, articulation, ornaments and layered textures of two or three voices. Teaching combines tutor explanation and demonstration with playing and listening workshops. Depending on the repertoire, sessions may also include aural skills, musicianship and theory. Learners are expected to maintain a regular practice routine between classes.

What you'll learn

  • Interpret piano repertoire with greater stylistic awareness
  • Coordinate rhythm and pulse with increased fluency
  • Apply advanced technical approaches when working on repertoire
  • Produce improved tone quality and layered textures of two or three voices
  • Use pedalling with greater subtlety
  • Make independent decisions about pedalling, ornaments and articulation
