Piano Workshop Level 6/7

About this course

The workshop develops piano technique and musicianship through individual lessons performed to the class, listening to other students and tutor demonstrations, explanations and discussions. Weekly sight-reading and occasional dictation or aural-training activities are included. Participants research and discuss the background of their repertoire, using digital listening and study resources where appropriate. Work focuses on technique, tonal balance, physical approach, touch, pedalling and stylistic features of Baroque, Classical and Romantic music.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for advanced players with at least four years’ experience who perform at approximately Grade 6/7 standard. Participants perform in front of the class, learn through listening to others and contribute to discussions in English. Preparation and substantial practice outside class are expected.

• Prepare two contrasting pieces for the course
• Be ready to perform during lessons and listen to other students’ work
• Allow significant time for practice and course activities outside class

Before you go

• Bring relevant music scores, a notebook and pencil.
• Keep a journal for tutor feedback and reflections on progress in class and during personal practice.
• The course requires study and completion of activities outside class time.
