About this course

This workshop develops piano technique, musicianship and repertoire understanding through individual lessons performed to the class, observation of another student’s lesson, tutor demonstrations and discussion. Weekly sight-reading and occasional dictation or aural-training activities are included, alongside research into the background of the pieces being studied. Sessions also address interpretation across Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire. Learners may use recordings, online videos, suitable mobile applications and Microsoft Teams to support study inside and outside class.

  • Control tonal balance between the hands
  • Use the body more effectively when playing
  • Develop sensitivity of touch and more controlled pedalling
  • Recognise key features of Baroque, Classical and Romantic music
