About this course

The course examines selected general elections in contemporary British politics, including changes in leadership, party policy, electoral support and voting patterns. It considers political rhetoric, campaign strategy, fundraising, polling research and the media’s role in shaping the political agenda. Discussion includes whether elections are lost by incumbent governments or won by opposition parties, and how funding, campaigning and communication affect outcomes. Teaching combines lectures with discussion, with opportunities for participants to contribute. Optional tasks may be set to extend learning beyond the class.
