About this course
The course compares Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat development from historical origins to current policy, leadership and support. It also considers the Greens and Reform, including their ideologies, policy positions and electoral potential under the Westminster system. Through a combination of lectures and discussion, participants examine how economic, social and foreign policies have developed, and how parties have responded to changing political, social and economic circumstances. Policy is considered in relation to ideology, pragmatism, opportunism and expediency. There is no formal assessment.

The course is designed for newcomers as well as learners with some background knowledge of politics. A good grasp of English is needed, and participation in discussions is encouraged. Learners are expected to listen respectfully and consider views with which they may disagree.
