About this course
The course develops keyboard skills for pop, rock and soul playing through tutor explanations, demonstrations and group tuition. Participants work with chord symbols, including seventh chords, and explore voicings, chord sequences, bass lines and grooves in different keys and styles. Class activities include playing with and to other learners, group performance and regular feedback. The repertoire includes classic pop, rock and soul songs, with exercises focused on rhythm, coordination, harmony and playing by ear.

Is this course right for you?
The course is intended for intermediate players with at least a year’s experience of pop, rock or soul piano. Learners are expected to know basic chords and feel comfortable playing triads in C, F and G major using different inversions. Participation includes group playing and performance.
- Previous piano experience is required
- Learners should be prepared to practise between lessons
- Class activities involve playing to and with other participants
