About this course
Participants develop portrait paintings from live models, beginning with observational drawing from different angles and study of the anatomy of the head before progressing to sustained paintings. The course covers proportion, composition, colour theory, skin tones, light and shadow, brushwork and capturing a likeness. Teaching combines demonstrations, practical exercises, easel painting, individual guidance and group tuition. Discussions and feedback consider historical and contemporary portraiture, with each model setup offering a different focus and approach.
