Portraiture 2

An all-levels portraiture course combining observational drawing, painting, composition, colour theory and tutor-led studio exercises.
About this course
Participants work from a clothed model through sustained portrait sessions and shorter exploratory exercises, using observation, measuring, preliminary studies and viewfinders to develop compositions. Drawing begins with charcoal or soft pencil, while painting activities cover colour mixing, palette management and varied techniques. Teaching combines demonstrations, individual guidance, tutor feedback, group discussion and presentations of artists’ work. Learners examine historical and contemporary portraiture, make portraits and self-portraits, and test different media and approaches to the human form. Sessions conclude with a mini exhibition and group discussion of the work produced.
