What Pre-intermediate (A2+) Portuguese means

At A2+ Portuguese, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

  • Explain a preference

    Prefiro viajar de comboio porque é mais confortável e posso ler.

    I prefer travelling by train because it is more comfortable and I can read.

  • Handle a small problem

    O quarto está muito frio. Poderia verificar o aquecimento?

    The room is very cold. Could you check the heating?

  • Describe an experience

    No ano passado visitei Lisboa e gostei muito da arquitetura.

    Last year I visited Lisbon and really liked the architecture.

About this course

The course develops spoken Portuguese through group activities and role-plays, with the teacher using Portuguese throughout to practise comprehension and listening. Lessons also cover grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, including the future subjunctive, conjunctions and irregular plural forms. Topics include career plans, employment conditions, job advertisements, arranging contact by telephone or email, and art, music and literature across Portuguese-speaking countries. The course also examines socio-economic issues in these countries and uses Portugues em Foco 2 as its coursebook.

  • Discuss long-term career plans, including working or living abroad.
  • Compare occupations, wages, working conditions and career prospects.
  • Leave simple telephone messages and arrange contact by phone, message or email.
  • Use the future subjunctive and selected conclusiva and adversative conjunctions.
  • Apply exceptions to Portuguese pluralisation rules.

Listed at Pre-intermediate (A2+) level, this course is intended for learners with substantial previous Portuguese study. The source specifies Portuguese Level 13 or at least 156 class hours as the expected background. Participation centres on spoken communication, group work and role-plays, alongside structured language study.
