What Elementary (A2) Portuguese means

At A2 Portuguese, learners can handle simple routine exchanges and describe familiar aspects of everyday life.

  • Describe your routine

Normalmente vou de autocarro para o trabalho e chego a casa às seis.

I normally go to work by bus and return home at six.

  • Make a simple plan

Queres ir ao cinema no sábado à tarde?

Would you like to go to the cinema on Saturday afternoon?

  • Talk about the recent past

Ontem jantei com amigos e depois fomos dar um passeio.

Yesterday I had dinner with friends and then we went for a walk.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

This course develops communication about past events, journeys, places visited, holidays and personal experiences. Participants work with the Portuguese simple past, including regular and selected irregular verbs, and practise expressions for referring to past events. Lessons combine spoken activities with structured work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Group tasks and role-plays provide opportunities to ask for and give information, retell events, describe places and express holiday preferences. The teacher uses Portuguese throughout, with course content also covering tourist destinations and cultural experiences in Portuguese-speaking countries.

What you'll learn

  • Ask for and provide information about trips and places visited
  • Use regular and selected irregular forms of the Pretérito Perfeito Simples do Indicativo
