What Pre-intermediate (A2+) Portuguese means

At A2+ Portuguese, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

  • Explain a preference

    Prefiro viajar de comboio porque é mais confortável e posso ler.

    I prefer travelling by train because it is more comfortable and I can read.

  • Handle a small problem

    O quarto está muito frio. Poderia verificar o aquecimento?

    The room is very cold. Could you check the heating?

  • Describe an experience

    No ano passado visitei Lisboa e gostei muito da arquitetura.

    Last year I visited Lisbon and really liked the architecture.

About this course

The course develops communication around narrating past actions, discussing experiences, giving gifts and lending items. Language work covers the Pretérito Perfeito Simples, indirect object pronouns, adverbs, descriptive adjectives, body and free-time vocabulary, and several common Portuguese expressions and distinctions. Lessons use group activities and role-plays alongside systematic grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation practice. The teacher conducts the class in Portuguese, giving learners sustained exposure to the language and opportunities to refine comprehension and listening.

What you'll learn

  • Narrate past actions and discuss past experiences in Portuguese.
  • Apply the Pretérito Perfeito Simples when talking about the past.
  • Describe gifts and related actions using suitable adjectives and adverbs.
  • Use indirect object pronouns and expressions including “Costumar/Andar a” + infinitive and “Andar” + adjective.
  • Distinguish between “pouco” and “um pouco” in appropriate contexts.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for pre-intermediate learners who have already studied Portuguese. The A2+ label indicates a stage beyond basic foundations, while the stated entry requirement is previous completion of Portuguese Level 8 or at least 96 class hours. Participation includes spoken communication, group work and role-plays.
