Beginner

A beginner pottery course covering hand-building, surface decoration and introductory throwing through demonstrations and practical studio sessions.

About this course

The course introduces clay construction through pinching, coiling, slab building, press moulding and tile making. Participants also investigate surface decoration, including glazing, slip decoration, Majolica and oxides, before exploring the fundamentals of throwing. Teaching combines technique demonstrations with individual practical work, project research and a group critique. Progress is discussed individually and collectively, with development recorded in an Individual Learning Plan and Learning Journal. Learners are expected to support their practical work with notes, sketches and research outside class.
