Pottery - Introduction to Wheel Throwing

About this course

The course introduces the main stages of throwing on the pottery wheel, including preparing and wedging clay, centring and coning, opening the form, and shaping basic cylinders. Guided demonstrations are combined with individual support as participants practise making simple cups and small vessels. The course also covers trimming and tidying finished pieces, preparing them for glazing and firing, and basic glazing techniques. Its main emphasis is on developing foundational throwing technique rather than intricate surface decoration.
