A tutor-guided glazing workshop for beginners and experienced ceramicists, covering glaze application and surface treatments across a range of skill levels.

About this course

Participants glaze bisque-fired ceramic pieces using brush-on, dipping and pouring methods. The session introduces glaze behaviour, powdered-glaze mixing and core application techniques, while offering more experienced learners guidance with layered glazes, oxides, stains, underglaze details and colour interactions. The workshop combines technical instruction with exploration of decorative surface effects and glazing methods.

Is this course right for you?

The workshop is designed for complete beginners, returning learners and experienced ceramicists working at different stages. Some ceramics experience is recommended, although there are no formal entry requirements. Beginners receive an introduction to glazing principles, while more experienced participants can explore or refine surface-development approaches.

  • Advanced or experimental approaches can be requested
  • Suitable for learners developing glazing skills alongside existing ceramic work

Before you go

  • Participants must supply their own bisque-fired ceramic pieces.
  • External bisque work must be approved in advance, with a photograph, clay body details and approximate dimensions provided for suitability checks.
  • Participants may bring their own glazes, subject to advance approval for kiln compatibility.
  • Glazed work remains with the provider for kiln firing, with collection arranged once the pieces are complete.
