About this course

The course revises existing BSL vocabulary while introducing new signs, regional variations and grammatical principles. Learning is organised around everyday topics including health, leisure, home life, technology, shopping, holidays, food and drink, and work. Participants practise fingerspelling and develop productive and receptive skills through classroom interaction, demonstrations, questions and answers, discussion, debate, and pair or group work.

  • Produce clear hand shapes and use facial expressions appropriately with signs.
  • Apply turn-taking techniques and ask for clarification during conversations.

This course is intended for learners who have passed Level 2 in BSL and want to consolidate their skills before progressing to Level 3. An interview assesses signing ability before enrolment. Participation includes pair and group work, classroom discussion and other interactive activities. Basic literacy is needed to read handouts and complete evaluation forms.
