About this course
The course prepares learners for the Functional Skills English Level 1 qualification by introducing its reading, writing, speaking and listening requirements. Participants work with real-world texts, including articles, reports and instructions, and practise writing formal letters, persuasive emails and professional reports. Sessions also cover punctuation, technical vocabulary and literary devices, alongside presenting ideas, contributing to discussions and responding to others. Learners explore the attendance, homework, independent study and digital skills involved in the accredited course. A tutor assesses readiness for progression to the full qualification.

- Learners who need more time may be directed towards a Getting Ready or another non-exam course.
