Printed Textiles

About this course

The course covers silk screen printing, cold and hot water dyeing, heat transfer, painted methods and resist techniques, with beginners introduced to foundational processes and experienced learners developing personal projects. Work explores applying colour to different cloth substrates. Teaching combines demonstrations, process-based studio practice, personal research and tutor guidance. Design development receives equal emphasis to technical processes, while the course considers the environmental effects of cloth, chemicals, energy and water use.

Is this course right for you?

The course welcomes complete beginners as well as learners with printing experience. Beginners are introduced to fundamental techniques, while experienced students undertake personal project work. The progressive structure means beginners joining in September are encouraged to attend across the academic year. Studio work involves standing and requires manual dexterity, physical stamina and a good command of English.

Before you go

• Bring protective clothing, a sketchbook, an A4 folder and A4 plastic sleeves. Further requirements will be discussed when needed.
• The class is on the second floor, with partial disabled access via a stair lift. Learners with mobility support needs should contact the relevant college support or administration team before enrolling.
