Printing – monotype

A Beginner course exploring monotype printing through direct, painterly and layered image-making techniques.
About this course
Participants will explore monotype as a printmaking process positioned between painting and drawing. The course covers mixing and rolling ink, then uses additive and reductive approaches to build images, alter marks and create contrast, texture and atmosphere. Practical work includes stencil printing, trace monotype and developing layered compositions from a ‘ghost’ image. The course also places monotype within printmaking and art history, considering how artists have used it across the boundary between print and painting.
